Alexandrov Ensemble Memorial 2021

LET'S REMEMBER THOSE WHO PERISHED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM.

Five years ago on Christmas Day, 2016, one of the preeminent music and dance companies in the world, the Alexandrov Ensemble, also known as the Red Army Choir, was en route to Syria on a mission to provide comfort and relief to the war-weary population and the soldiers engaged in a battle against the very terrorist groups which attacked the United States in September 2001.

The Tu-154 jetliner transporting the Ensemble and others mysteriously crashed over the Black Sea shortly after departure from the Sochi airport, killing all 92 on board, including 65 members of the Alexandrov Ensemble; renowned humanitarian worker and charity activist Elizaveta Glinka; Anton Gubankov, director of the Department of Culture of the Defense Ministry; journalists and others.

Upon hearing the news of the crash, the Schiller Institute NYC Chorus brought flowers to the steps of the Russian Consulate in NYC and sang the Russian and American Anthems. A week later, the chorus went to the Tear Drop Memorial To the Struggle Against World Terrorism, in Bayonne NJ, joined by the Bayonne Fire Dept. and the NYPD Color Guard, to hold a ceremony honoring those killed.

This 100 foot monument which faces out over the New York Bay to lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, was donated to the Unites States by the Russian nation in friendship and partnership in the battle against international terrorism following September 11, 2001 attacks on NYC and the U.S.

On this 5th anniversary of the crash, we'll pay homage to the Alexandrov Ensemble with a ceremonial program of tribute and musical offerings, Wednesday, December 29th at 11 am. All are invited.

Please consider a donation to support this important event.

Donations are tax deductible.
