Bach: WTC Book 2, G minor

🎼🎶 Tuesday, August 17, 2021
We’ve reached G minor: number 16 in our journey through the 24 keys of the well-tempered system.
Here is Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G minor from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II:
Though not in the same key, this song setting from Robert Schumann’s “Dichterliebe” (A Poet’s Love) was clearly inspired by Bach’s Prelude:
"Im Rhein, im heiligen Strom“
In the Rhine, in the sacred river,
It is mirrored in the waves
With its grand cathedral
The great, holy Köln (Cologne).
In the cathedral there’s a picture
Painted on golden leather;
Into the tangle of my life
It has smiled kindly.
Flowers and angels float
Around our beloved Lady;
The eyes, the lips, the cheeks,
They’re the image of my sweetheart.
