Why is Beethoven so loved? Why has he been a guiding star of civilization for all peoples across the ages? Why is his setting of Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy one of the universal anthems of freedom?
Beethoven tells us, "Don't only practice your art, but force your way into its secrets; art deserves that, for it and knowledge can raise man to the divine."
Celebrate with the Schiller Chorus on December 17th at 7:30 pm.
With your support, our project of one year ago to perform Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in 2020 to honor the Beethoven 250th year anniversary will continue in 2021, and we look forward to performing this monumental work in full, live and with orchestra, when that can be done safely.
Today we present the Kyrie and Gloria sections virtually, along with live performances of Beethoven’s Opferlied, Opus 121b, the Spring Sonata, Opus 24, for violin and piano, Beethoven lieder, holiday songs, and other surprises.
Broadcast Live by MUSAE in both HD and 360° virtual reality from St. John’s in the Village, New York City.
*EARLY MUSIC LOVER SPECIAL THROUGH DEC 13
