One cannot take leave of the key of G major without hearing Mozart's Serenade in G, better known as "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" (a little night music).
In 1787, while working on the second act of his opera “Don Giovanni”, Mozart noted in his journal that he had composed “eine kleine Nachtmusik”, and this became the title of what is undoubtedly one of the most popular of Mozart’s works. Originally scored just for two violins, viola, and cello, it is almost always performed today by symphony orchestras.
