The Sino-American Musician Association and the Council of Chinese-American Associations invited the Schiller Institute NYC Chorus to participate in the 6th New York Chinese Chorus Festival, held on September 28, 2019.
This was the third time the chorus joined the festival. The photo above shows the directors and conductors of the 20 choruses and soloists on the program. Standing at the center of 2nd row are Diane Sare (red scarf) and John Sigerson (red bow tie), directors of the Schiller Institute Chorus.The event took place in the huge and packed auditorium of John Bowne H.S. in Flushing, next door to Queen's College.
The Schiller Chorus sang three a cappella works: Jester Hairston's arrangement of the spiritual Poor Man Lazrus, The Gradual of Jose Nunes de Garcia who was an African-Brazilian contemporary of Beethoven, and the Sicut locutus est section of J.S. Bach's Magnificat.
