Sunday, August 8, 2021Continuing in the key of F-sharp major, we have the “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from Verdi’s opera, “Nabucco”.
Written in 1842 when much of Italy was under Austrian occupation, this chorus was immediately embraced by Italians as the expression of their own passion and longing for national sovereignty, and remains today the unofficial national anthem of Italy.
